Troubleshooting and Technical issues
Common issues and their solutions or workarounds
Issue: While logging in with drawterm, the message "unable to chdir to (some directory)" is displayed.
Solution: This message is not a problem. It simply means that the 'current working directory' you started drawterm from isn't there on the VM. In fact, it means you logged in successfully. Congrats!
Issue: When I try to connect with Drawterm, I get a password error.
Solution: Try drawterm in as user Bootes. If Bootes can log in but other users cannot, this means the authentication port (567) is not reaching the VM. If you are running in linux, did you run the tools/iptablescript to set up iptables port bouncing?
Issue: The tools/iptablescript gives me errors in my linux distribution and the port redirection doesnt work.
Solution: Your linux distribution may have an iptables based firewall already in place, and the iptablescript might be in conflict with it. This issue exists for OpenSUSE 11 and possibly others. One possible fix is to create a virtual network interface for the VM using a mechanism like tun/tap. Another option is to say hell with it and run your VM as root with a 'straight across' port redir from 567 to 567.
Issue: OH GOD WHAT IS THIS I DONT EVEN
Solution: There is nothing wrong with your monitor. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. Glenda is controlling transmission. She will control the horizontal. She will control the vertical. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner source code to the outer 9p limits.
